Adopt-a-Family this Holiday Season!

With the holiday season around the corner, I hope you will consider “adopting” a Pacifica family this year. As an adopter, you really are a secret Santa because neither you nor your “adopted” family discloses names. If you like the adoption idea, but do not have the time t shop, you can also purchase gift cards for PRC to have on hand for other families we serve that are not officially adopted for the holidays. And, gift cards are always great for teens.

Here is how PRC’s Adopt A Family works:  Pacifica families with children 17 and under sign up with PRC by turning in holiday wish letters from each child and naming one gift the whole family would like. You use those letters to guide your gift purchases and bring wrapped gifts to PRC after Thanksgiving and before Friday, December 8th. When the families pick up the gifts, they write you an immediate thank you (usually from the parents). Then, after the holidays, each child writes a thank you letter about the specific items they received.

To help you decide the number of children to adopt, we suggest that you plan to spend at least $100 per child for gifts and ask that you also include a household gift. Optional additional gifts are special holiday food treats and grocery store gift cards to purchase holiday food.

Call PRC when you know the size of the family you wish to support for the holidays and we will match you ASAP. We are in the process of signing up families now, so there may be a time lag between your request and the match. Our goal is to give you details about your family no later than Wednesday, November 23rd.

Thank you so much for your interest in our holiday programs.

PALM-A-PALOOZA A GREAT SUCCESS!

Thank you for supporting Pacifica Resource Center’s Inaugural Palm-a-Palooza sponsored in part by Recology of the Coast, Sam Mazza Foundation and Pacifica Mothers Club on August 19, 2017. Together, we raised nearly $50,000 for our vital work in the community!

Nearly 200 PRC supporters, friends, and family joined us in our big top for a fun night of Ferris Wheel rides, photos with our Palm (name TBA by Mary Ann Nihart, our 2017 Name Our Palm winner), and a stupendous live auction. We served popcorn and cotton candy, marinated salad from Breakers, appetizers from Oceana Market, and dinner from The Waffle Roost and Moonraker food trucks. Our beer and wine selection was courtesy of Lagunitas Brewing Co., Bell Tower Restaurant, and Wine Warehouse. And, our magnificent evening concluded with cake from Mazzetti’s Bakery and desserts from Baked Beauties, Bay Cakery, Cheryl’s Shortbread, and The French Patisserie, along with Peerless Coffee lovingly brewed by Breakers.

As you know, funds raised at Palm-a-Paloooza help us continue to provide a safety net of food, housing assistance, and other critical services to the growing number of Pacificans struggling to make ends meet. For example, 1 in 10 Pacifica households earned less than $25,000 and nearly 2 in 5 Pacifica families earned less than $105,000 – the US Department of Housing’s low-income threshold for a family of 4 (source:  US Census Bureau 2011-2015 America Community Survey).

On behalf of our staff and Board of Directors, thank you again for supporting our vision to assure the basic needs of every Pacifican are met so that each member of our community has the opportunity to thrive. Together, we are neighbors helping neighbors!
