Make a Year-End gift to PRC!

As 2022 comes to an end, we ask that you join us in starting 2023 strong by making a year-end gift to PRC. Your support is critical as we continue to help strengthen the resilience and wellbeing of our neighbors while they work to overcome the rising cost of living in our beautiful and unique community.

And, a local, anonymous donor is continuing their commitment to PRC and our community by matching your contributions up to $50,000. That means every $1 you give by December 31 is worth $2 to Pacifica Resource Center and the families we serve, helping them feed their families, keep a roof over their heads, and become more financially stable.

Our work is even more vital as inflation and housing costs continue to rise in San Mateo County. For example, now more than half of Pacifica families earned less than $149,100 – the US Department of Housing's low-income threshold for a family of 4 (source:  U.S. Census Bureau's 2016-2020 American Community Survey). As a result, we have seen a 274% increase in service requests and your gift will help meet this growing demand!

Next year, we will implement our new strategic plan, which further confirms what we are seeing – more Pacificans could use our support. Together, we will provide more robust services, increasing grocery deliveries, housing-centered case management, and onsite services at schools, libraries, and senior housing in Pacifica.

Give to PRC today and reinforce our vision that every member of our community is economically secure and has the opportunity to thrive. We are neighbors helping neighbors! #WeArePRC! All gifts are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law; our tax ID is 81-1496989.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and support!

Hate Crime at PRC - 10/28/2022

On Friday 10/28 just before noon, one of PRC's back office windows was broken by a man in a grey truck. He deliberately stopped in front of PRC at the corner of Palmetto & Santa Maria and threw a rock at our window. I have no idea why someone would think throwing a rock at PRC was better than talking to us about what made them commit such a violent act against us. Was it the Pride Flag we proudly hang in that window? Was it that they don't agree with the services we provide to our unhoused neighbors? Was it random?

Whatever the reason, I am disheartened and saddened to know someone in our community thought throwing a rock was the solution to their anger. Thankfully, no one was sitting at the window. While no one was physically hurt, we at PRC are emotionally shaken, shocked, and worried that this violence might continue against us or our neighbors.

PPD responded quickly and is investigating the incident as a hate crime. I thank PRC Office Manager Dulce Adonis and PRC Executive Assistant Michelle Hofland for managing the situation and insuring our staff’s safety. Thank you, also, to City of Pacifica Parks and Facilities Superintendent Gino Assereto for covering the hole in the window until we can get it replaced and Public Works Director Lisa Petersen for coordinating within her department to help.

Please help us find who did this, so they can get the help they need. If you were on or near Palmetto at Santa Maria on Friday before 12p and saw something or you have any information about what happened at PRC, please contact PPD non-emergency line at 650 650-738-7314 or by email police@pacificapolice.org or contact the Silent Witness Hotline at 650-359-4444.

Yours in peace and appreciation.
Anita M. Rees, PRC Executive Director

Support PRC's 2022 Back to School Program!

Back to school time is approaching fast and we still need 25 more sturdy backpacks to get ready for the upcoming school year! Help us reach our goal!

Last year with your help, we provided 157 Pacifica youth with backpacks, earbuds, PPE, and Target gift cards for school supplies.

This year, we invite you to support our 2022 Back to School Program with a gift of a backpack and/or $25-$40 Target gift card.

PRC supports the economic security of Pacifica families and individuals by providing a safety net of groceries, housing assistance, and other critical services, including coaching, advocacy, information, and referral.

Now more than ever, our Back to School Program helps our families use their limited incomes to stay housed and feed their families, instead of sacrificing groceries and rent money to prepare their children for school.

Studies show when children have food and shelter and can go to school with the supplies they need, they have the tools to succeed academically.

Thank you again for helping our community's youth attend school prepared and ready to succeed through our Back to School program. All contributions to PRC are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law; our tax ID is 81-1496989.

PRC Reopening

Four months and 21 days after the fire at PRC on Wednesday, September 22, our front office is officially reopened! And, we are back to our regular office hours.

Special thanks to:

  • MC Roofing for repairing our roof.

  • Azzaro Bros for repairing our deck, replacing the fence between our office and our neighbor's backyard, fixing the exterior and interior walls, replacing (and adding a couple) of windows, building a ceiling an replacing our insulation, replacing our fluorescent lights with recessed LEDs, and texturing and painting the new walls and ceiling.

  • Sean’s Quality Floors for the new floor in our reception area.

  • Four Square Electric for re-configuring our Ethernet ports for our new front desk location.

The fire and its aftermath have been traumatic and the repairs have been challenging for our staff, volunteers, and clients. The last remnant of the fire is the damage to our California Poppies mural by Robbie Louthan. In the coming year, we will decide if we will repaint it or redo it completely.

Thank you all for your patience and support. #WeArePRC #NeighborsHelpingNeighbors
