PRC's Tax Season Begins Saturday, January 28

Do you need help preparing your taxes this year? PRC's tax season begins Saturday, January 27, 2024. To make an appointment, call 650-738-7470 now or click the button below to message PRC Tax Site Coordinator Mirella Osuna.

All tax services, including e-filing, are provided at no cost by tax preparers trained on tax law and certified by the IRS.

Did you know? You may qualify for more than $6,000 in refunds from the California and Federal Earned Income Tax Credits.

The amount of the cash-back tax credit depends on income and family size. To qualify for at least one of the two cash-back credits, your wages need to be less than $64,000.

Bring the following once you have scheduled your tax appointment:

  • Photo ID and Social Security Card or ITIN for each person on your tax return

  • W-2 for all jobs

  • All 1099s, 1098s and any other tax forms

  • Last year's tax return

  • Savings and checking account and routing numbers for direct deposit

Thank you to our year-end supporters!

Thank you for helping us raise over $300,000, including matching funds from an anonymous donor, for our program and services. You made our 2022 year end fundraiser our best ever! We are truly grateful for your generosity and look forward to another year serving you and our community.

As we start 2023, PRC also adopted our 2023-2025 strategic plan to expand our services and exploring new ways to support the resilience and well-being of families and individuals in Pacifica and along the coast. Together, we will work to achieve our vision that every person in our community lives with dignity and has the opportunity to thrive. More information about our strategic plan is coming soon!

Make a Year-End gift to PRC!

As 2022 comes to an end, we ask that you join us in starting 2023 strong by making a year-end gift to PRC. Your support is critical as we continue to help strengthen the resilience and wellbeing of our neighbors while they work to overcome the rising cost of living in our beautiful and unique community.

And, a local, anonymous donor is continuing their commitment to PRC and our community by matching your contributions up to $50,000. That means every $1 you give by December 31 is worth $2 to Pacifica Resource Center and the families we serve, helping them feed their families, keep a roof over their heads, and become more financially stable.

Our work is even more vital as inflation and housing costs continue to rise in San Mateo County. For example, now more than half of Pacifica families earned less than $149,100 – the US Department of Housing's low-income threshold for a family of 4 (source:  U.S. Census Bureau's 2016-2020 American Community Survey). As a result, we have seen a 274% increase in service requests and your gift will help meet this growing demand!

Next year, we will implement our new strategic plan, which further confirms what we are seeing – more Pacificans could use our support. Together, we will provide more robust services, increasing grocery deliveries, housing-centered case management, and onsite services at schools, libraries, and senior housing in Pacifica.

Give to PRC today and reinforce our vision that every member of our community is economically secure and has the opportunity to thrive. We are neighbors helping neighbors! #WeArePRC! All gifts are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law; our tax ID is 81-1496989.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and support!

Don't Forget to Vote - Election Day is Tuesday, November 8, 2022

NOTE: Pacifica Resource Center is a nonprofit and does not endorse candidates for elective public office. An endorsement by past or current PRC staff or board members does not imply an endorsement by PRC.

Any statement that suggests Pacifica Resource Center supports or opposes a candidate was done without authorization or permission of Pacifica Resource Center.

Voting information and resources

Voter registration by mail and online is closed as of October 24, but eligible voters can still register in person up to and including election day on November 8.

Conditional voter registration is a safety net for Californians who miss the deadline to register to vote or update their voter registration information. Voters can use the conditional voter registration process through Election Day. Eligible citizens can go to their county election office, polling place, or vote center to register and vote conditionally. These ballots will be processed once the county elections office has completed the voter registration verification process.

Return your vote-by-mail ballot by mail with prepaid postage as long as it's postmarked on or before Election Day and received by November 15, 2022, or in-person to a secure ballot drop box, to a voting location or your county elections office by 8:00 p.m. on November 8, 2022.

Hate Crime at PRC - 10/28/2022

On Friday 10/28 just before noon, one of PRC's back office windows was broken by a man in a grey truck. He deliberately stopped in front of PRC at the corner of Palmetto & Santa Maria and threw a rock at our window. I have no idea why someone would think throwing a rock at PRC was better than talking to us about what made them commit such a violent act against us. Was it the Pride Flag we proudly hang in that window? Was it that they don't agree with the services we provide to our unhoused neighbors? Was it random?

Whatever the reason, I am disheartened and saddened to know someone in our community thought throwing a rock was the solution to their anger. Thankfully, no one was sitting at the window. While no one was physically hurt, we at PRC are emotionally shaken, shocked, and worried that this violence might continue against us or our neighbors.

PPD responded quickly and is investigating the incident as a hate crime. I thank PRC Office Manager Dulce Adonis and PRC Executive Assistant Michelle Hofland for managing the situation and insuring our staff’s safety. Thank you, also, to City of Pacifica Parks and Facilities Superintendent Gino Assereto for covering the hole in the window until we can get it replaced and Public Works Director Lisa Petersen for coordinating within her department to help.

Please help us find who did this, so they can get the help they need. If you were on or near Palmetto at Santa Maria on Friday before 12p and saw something or you have any information about what happened at PRC, please contact PPD non-emergency line at 650 650-738-7314 or by email police@pacificapolice.org or contact the Silent Witness Hotline at 650-359-4444.

Yours in peace and appreciation.
Anita M. Rees, PRC Executive Director
