THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING PALM-A-PALOOZA 2020!
Thank you for supporting our Palm-a-Palooza fundraiser on September 19, 2020 presented by Pacifica Resource Center and Grocery Outlet Pacifica.
Your generosity surpassed our expectations and helped raise over $40,000 for our important work!
In lieu of an in person event, PRC staff and board members delivered exclusive gifts to our sponsors on September 19. Then, over 175 of our supporters, friends, and family tuned in for a video premiere of never before seen content celebrating our past 5 years of events; Zoom interviews, including one with Chan and Diana Chu, owners of Grocery Outlet Pacifica; sponsor thank you’s; and, a drawing for prizes from some of our key community supporters.
A very special thank you goes out to Living Room Plant Co. for putting together the beautiful palms and terrariums!
Kevin Burleigh of Kevin Burleigh Productions is credited with producing and editing our Palm-a-Palooza 2020 video while PRC Development Coordinator Robby Bancroft and Pacifica City Councilmember Mary Bier proudly handled hosting duties. And, our video concluded with an inspirational story from PRC Board President Chris Hunter, who also wants to remind you to complete your Census by September 30, 2020!
All funds raised through Palm-a-Palooza will help PRC continue to provide assistance to the growing number of Pacificans in need with groceries, emergency financial assistance for rent and mortgage, homeless services, and other critical services.
For example, nearly 1 in 10 Pacifica households earn under $25,000 and over half of Pacifica families earned less than $139,400 - the US Department of Housing's low-income threshold for a family of 4 (source: U.S. Census Bureau's 2014-2018 American Community Survey).
Thank you now and forever for supporting our vision to assure the basic needs of every Pacifican are met so that each member of our community has the opportunity to thrive.
Together, we are Neighbors Helping Neighbors. Together, #WeArePRC!

Updated 8/7/20
COVID-19 has changed everything. But Pacifica youth returning to school in the Fall hasn’t changed.
PRC is collecting backpacks and school supplies to help over 150 Pacifica students get ready for the upcoming school year.
Can we depend on your support again this year?
Last year with your support, we helped prepare 168 Pacifica youth with backpacks and grade-specific school supplies. This year, we invite you to support our 2020 Back to School Program with a gift of a backpack, earphones, and/or personal protective equipment, and/or a $25 Target gift card for our Pacifica youth.
To support PRC's Back to School Program, please order from our Amazon Wish List by August 6th with a delivery date by Thursday, August 11, 2020. If you wish to buy items physically, in-store, then please drop off your contributions to our office no later than 5:00pm on Thursday, August 13, 2020.
Give directly to PRC in support of our Back to School PrograM:
$50 provides a new backpack & supplies!
PRC supports the economic security of Pacifica families and individuals by providing a safety net of groceries, housing assistance, and other critical services, including coaching, advocacy, information, and referral.
Now more than ever, our Back to School Program helps our families use their limited incomes to stay housed and feed their families, instead of sacrificing groceries and rent money to prepare their children for school.
Studies show when children have food and shelter and can go to school with the supplies they need, they have the tools to succeed academically.
Thank you again for helping our community's youth attend school prepared and ready to succeed through our Back to School program. All contributions to PRC are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law; our tax ID is 81-1496989.
Introducing The San Mateo County Strong Fund
Based on the recently established county-specific funds in Santa Clara and San Francisco Counties, as well as the 10-county fund established by the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, the County of San Mateo has worked with the Silicon Valley Community Foundation to create a San Mateo County-specific fund named the San Mateo County Strong Fund.
The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors made an important vote this morning, Tuesday, March 24, 2020, to approve an initial $3 million in Measure K funds to launch the San Mateo County Strong Fund. The purpose of this fund will be to address the swift and unexpected impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic at a very local level by helping the following most-impacted groups:
Individuals/Families: Helping those most in need to cover basic household expenses;
Small Local Businesses: Helping small business owners avoid layoffs and pay rent, support self-employed residents who do not qualify for State unemployment benefits; and enable as many small businesses to stay open or reopen once California’s state-wide COVID-19 Shelter in Place order is lifted;
Non-Profits: Funding to help non-profit agencies with operating expenses so they can continue to assist and serve our most vulnerable residents.
The fund will be administered by the Silicon Valley Community Foundation under direction from the County of San Mateo on how to allocate funds to non-profits, how individuals can apply for support, and in close collaboration with the San Mateo County Economic Development Association (SAMCEDA) how small businesses and self-employed residents who qualify can access grants.
The San Mateo County Strong Fund will have a dedicated website where individual donors can contribute to the fund through a dedicated PayPal site hosted by the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. 100% of the funds raised by the San Mateo County Strong Fund will stay in San Mateo County.
The County, SAMCEDA, and the Silicon Valley Community Foundation will launch a parallel effort to seek major contributions from San Mateo County’s large companies, philanthropic foundations, and other entities and individuals who can support the fund with significant contributions.
Please donate immediately to the San Mateo County Strong Fund at www.SMCStrong.org.
Here in San Mateo County — we know how to help and support each other. We’ve done it before, and together, we will get through this and come out even stronger as a community.
Please make a tax-deductible donation today at www.SMCStrong.org to support individuals and families, non-profits serving our most vulnerable residents, small business owners, and self-employed residents hit hardest by California’s state-wide COVID-19 Shelter in Place order. 100% of your donation will be used in San Mateo County, helping to respond to this crisis and support our community.

Homeless services
Showers continue to be available to unhoused individuals and families by appointment. Thanks to several volunteers we have been able to offer even more showers.
With our new Unhoused on the Coast (UC) Outreach staff, we will also be re-starting outreach to our unhoused neighbors in Pacifica and along the coast through Half Moon Bay. If you come across someone who is unhoused in Pacifica, please let us know so we can reach out to them.
There are no shelters on the coast, but we do have resources and support to offer. Anyone who is unhoused can come to PRC for help.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this time.

DID YOU KNOW?
The National Census is the cornerstone of our democracy, so critical that it is mandated by the U.S. Constitution.
The first census took place in 1790 and has occurred every 10 years since to determine political representation.
Census 2020 will determine how many representatives CA has in U.S. Congress and how to draw state and local districts. This includes setting district boundaries for congressional, state senator, assembly member, county supervisor, and city council elections.
This means Census 2020 will affect your voice at the federal, state, and local level.
